Jim Vandiver - Owner
704-618-3627

Jim has been selling quality used cars and trucks at the same location on Highway 115 in Huntersville since 1972. The business was originally called Vandiver Auto Sales. Jim changed the name to Choice Trucks in 1999 when he began specializing in trucks and SUVs. These days you may find a BMW, Mercedes or Mini Cooper on the lot, but Choice Trucks continues to feature trucks and SUVs as its primary inventory. Choice Trucks has always been a family-owned business and Jim still gets help from his four children. Oldest son Emory is now a partner in the business and specializes in buying and internet marketing. Jim has his own in-house legal team with daughters Nicole and Shannon, both practicing attorneys in the Huntersville/Cornelius area and both graduates of UNC Chapel Hill. Son Rhett works as a marketing director for a NASCAR team and helps Jim maintain his ties within the NASCAR community.

Emory Vandiver - Buyer

Emory has been a part of Choice Trucks all the way back to his college days when he detailed cars to help finance his education. Currently Emory is a partner in the business and concentrates on the buying side. His buying philosophy is to target clean cars with low mileage and a clear history. By attending 5-6 auctions per week and being very selective, Emory can cherry-pick the best vehicles and always tries to offer them at prices well below Kelly Blue Book. Just like Jim, Emory is extremely proud of his two children. Son Blake is an honor roll student at Nation Ford High School and plays lacrosse, football and tennis. Blake currently drives a Ford Mustang he got from Choice Trucks, of course. Daughter Marlo is also an honor roll student, has won 3 consecutive state championships in archery, and is one of the top scorers on the Nation Ford varsity lacrosse team despite being a freshman.

Jim's NASCAR career - Winston Cup Driver

Jim Vandiver raced in the top level of NASCAR for 15 years in what was then the Winston Cup Series. Jim was a hard-charging independent driver who enjoyed some remarkable success considering the limited resources of his team. None other than Dale Earnhardt Jr. has listed Jim Vandiver as one of his heroes. Jim is credited with second in the inaugural 1969 Talladega race, although many people swear that Jim won that race and SPEED recently aired a one-hour TV special on the controversy. Jim finished 3rd in the 1972 Daytona 500 and had 15 top-ten finishes in his career. All this despite having one car, one engine, some unpaid volunteers from his neighborhood as a pit crew and his brother as his crew chief. Jim may not have the millions that today's drivers have, but his stories from racing "back in the day" are priceless.

Emory's softball career - 7-time World Champion

Emory began his softball career playing for the Vandiver Auto Sales team out of Huntersville. After winning the local Huntersville league for 4 straight years, the team began traveling to large tournaments against tougher competition. In 1986, the Vandiver Auto Sales team won the USSSA World Championship over 173 teams on Labor Day weekend in Columbia, SC. They were ranked first in the nation during 1986 and 1987. Emory has added six more world championships at tournaments in Atlanta, Indianapolis, Dallas, Gastonia, Rock Hill and Tampa. Still playing competitive softball, Emory's current team (Adiktive Sports) has been classified as major and won their last tournment in Alabama with a team batting average of .790 and hit 79 home runs in five games.
